Privacy policy
The short version
We collect the least we can. We use your video only to make your clips. We never use it in advertising without a signed release, never use faces to identify anyone, never sell data, and we remove your video and clips from our servers on the schedule below. Most of what we process is video of children, and we treat it that way.
Who is responsible
Orange Slice, 19951 80A Avenue, Langley, British Columbia, Canada V2Y 0E2, is the controller of your personal information. For privacy questions, use the contact form and choose Privacy. If you’re in the EU or UK, you can write to the same address; we’re appointing a local representative and will list them here.
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and country, and whether you’re signing up as an adult player or as a parent or guardian.
- The player: their first name, used only to label the clips, and their sport. For team sports, their jersey number and team colours. For tennis and similar sports, what they were wearing.
- Your video: the file you upload, and your answers about it (for example the final score).
- The clips: what the software makes from your video, and the short text record of each session.
- Your consent record: the date, time and version of the documents you agreed to.
- Payment: our payment processor collects your card details and billing address. We receive confirmation that you paid, the last four digits of the card, and your billing country. We never see your full card number.
- Technical: your IP address, browser and device type, and logs of requests to our servers, kept for security.
- Messages: what you send us through the contact form or by email.
We don’t collect anything from a child directly. The account belongs to the adult, and the adult provides the video.
What we do with it
- Make your clips: find the player you tapped, cut the clips, sort them, blur other people’s faces, and put the clips in your account.
- Run your account: sign you in, show your sessions, take payment through our processor, and send emails about your clips and your account.
- Support you: answer questions and fix problems. Authorised staff may view your video or clips only for that purpose, or to check the quality of what the software produced.
- Improve the software: we look at how the software performs across sessions (for example how often it loses a player) so we can make it better. We don’t use your video to train anything to recognise people, and we never keep a copy of your video for this after it has been removed under the schedule below.
- Keep the service safe: block bots, throwaway email addresses and repeated free trials.
- Marketing, only if you asked: product updates, news about new sports and tips, sent only if you ticked the box. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Our legal basis, where the law asks for one
In Canada we rely on your consent, which you give at sign-up and can withdraw. Under the GDPR and UK GDPR: we process your video and the player’s details on the basis of your consent, given as the adult or as the child’s parent or guardian; your account and payment details to perform our contract with you; technical and security data under our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe; and marketing email on your consent.
Video of children
Players are often under 18. Only a parent or legal guardian can open an account for a player under 18, and they must consent, in a separate box, to us processing the child’s video before anything is uploaded. We don’t knowingly accept accounts from anyone under 18, and we close any we find.
We never use a child’s face, likeness or a photo to find them in video. The account holder taps the player once, and the software follows them by what they’re wearing, their number and their position. Nothing is stored as an image of a person, and we don’t create facial or body templates.
Other people in your video
The other players, officials and spectators in your video are never labelled, named or stored as individuals. Their faces are blurred in the clips whenever they’re large enough to recognise. In tennis, we don’t record the opponent’s name and we don’t label them. The original video, which shows them unblurred, is removed once your clips are ready.
We never use your video in advertising
Not on our website, not in ads, not on social media, not in demos, unless you’ve signed a separate written release for specific clips. We don’t sell, rent or trade your video, your clips or your details to anyone.
Who else sees it
You, and anyone you send a share link to. Share links work for 96 hours and let the recipient watch and download the clips. Choose who you send them to.
We use a small number of providers to run the service. Each processes data only on our instructions and is bound by a data processing agreement:
- Cloudflare: hosting, storage of video and clips, the database, bot protection, and sending our automated emails. Data is stored in the region assigned to your account (see below).
- Modal: runs the video processing that finds the player and cuts the clips, in the region assigned to your account. Video is held there only while a session is being processed.
- Google: Google Analytics, only if you allow it in the cookie banner. It records which pages were visited, not what you type into forms.
- Microsoft: Microsoft Clarity, only if you allow it in the cookie banner. It records how pages are used, with everything typed into forms hidden.
- Paddle: our payment processor and merchant of record. It collects card details, takes payment and handles tax. Paddle’s own privacy policy applies to the details you give at checkout.
We may add or change providers. We’ll update this list when we do. We don’t share your data with anyone else unless the law requires it, or to protect someone’s safety.
Where it’s stored
Your video, clips and account data stay in the region set from your billing country when you sign up, and that doesn’t change:
- EU: stored and processed in the European Union.
- United States and Canada: stored and processed in North America. Canadian data may be stored in the United States. If you live in Quebec, you can ask us how this is assessed under Law 25.
- United Kingdom: stored and processed in the European Union under the UK’s adequacy arrangements.
- Australia: stored and processed in Australia.
Where data leaves your country, our providers use recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
- Your uploaded video: removed from our servers once your clips are ready.
- Your clips: until you download the full set, at which point that copy is removed for good. Clips you haven’t downloaded stay while your subscription is active, then for 30 days after it ends. Free-trial clips are kept for 30 days.
- Shared copies: 96 hours from when the link is made.
- Session records (date, sport, score, clip count): until you close your account.
- Account details: until you close your account, then removed within 90 days.
- Consent records: kept for as long as the law requires us to show consent was given.
- Payment records: seven years, as tax law requires.
- Security logs: 90 days.
- Contact form messages: two years.
How we protect it
Video and clips are encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to production systems is limited to authorised staff and logged. We use bot protection on sign-up, sign-in and the contact form. If a breach ever affects your data, we’ll tell you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
Cookies and analytics
We use the cookies needed to sign you in and to run the bot check. Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits without cookies. If you allow it in the banner, we also use Google Analytics to see which pages are read and where visitors come from, and Microsoft Clarity to see how pages are used (clicks, scrolling and anonymised recordings of visits, with everything typed into forms hidden). Both set cookies. Nothing you type into a form is sent to either. Advertising features are turned off. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. We don’t use advertising trackers.
We send emails about your account and your clips because you need them to use the service. We send product updates, news and tips only if you ticked the box, and every one of those has an unsubscribe link. You can change your choice in your account at any time.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy;
- ask us to correct it;
- ask us to delete your video, clips or account;
- withdraw consent for processing the player’s video. Processing stops, and we remove the video and clips within 30 days. Clips already downloaded by you or by someone you shared them with are outside our control;
- object to, or ask us to limit, particular processing;
- ask for your data in a portable form;
- stop marketing email at any time.
Use the contact form and choose Privacy. We answer within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm it’s your account.
You can also complain to a privacy regulator: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia; the Commission d’accès à l’information if you’re in Quebec; the data protection authority in your EU country; the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK; or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. We’d rather hear from you first.
Laws that apply to us
Canada’s PIPEDA and British Columbia’s Personal Information Protection Act; Quebec’s Law 25 for Quebec residents; the GDPR for people in the EU; the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018; the Australian Privacy Act 1988; and applicable US state privacy laws and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, which we meet by collecting nothing from children directly and by requiring a parent or guardian to open the account and consent.
Changes to this policy
We’ll post changes here with a new version number and date, and email you before a change that affects how we handle your video. The version you agreed to is recorded with your account.
